Artist's depiction showing the Norse god Freyr gazing out from atop Odin's high seat to Jotunheim, realm of the giants, where he espies the giant-daughter Gerðr walking across her garden and instantly falls in love with her. This tale is recorded in the Skírnismál ('lay of Skírnir'). This particular depiction is titled 'The Lovesickness of Frey' and appears in 'The Elder or Poetic Edda; commonly known as Sæmund's Edda.' Edited and translated with introduction and notes by Olive Bray. Illustrated by W.G. Collingwood (1908).
