The DHAMMAPADA is a collection of sayings of the Buddha in verse form and one of the most widely read and best known Buddhist scriptures. The original version of the DHAMMAPADA is in the Khuddaka Nikaya, a division of the Pali Canon of Theravada Buddhism. The Buddhist scholar and commentator Buddhaghosa explains that each saying recorded in the collection was made on a different occasion in response to a unique situation that had arisen in the life of the Buddha and his monastic community. His commentary, the Dhammapada Atthakatha, presents the details of these events and is a rich source of legend for the life and times of the Buddha.

A recommended read to obtain internal peace in this troubled world.

"1. All that we are is the result of what we have thought: it is founded on our thoughts, it is made up of our thoughts. If a man speaks or acts with an evil thought, pain follows him, as the wheel follows the foot of the ox that draws the carriage.

2. All that we are is the result of what we have thought: it is founded on our thoughts, it is made up of our thoughts. If a man speaks or acts with a pure thought, happiness follows him, like a shadow that never leaves him."

Peace, plain and simple!

This is a very readable English translation of the Dhammapada. Full of wisdom and guidelines for living, the book reads easily and is a must read for everyone looking to improve your life. The wisdom transcends the Buddhist origins and is universally approachable.

And the few women there, most are on the bad side of the chart.
Very very man’s olds laws. If Buddha was abide to do it all over it may be much better.

Not knowing much about Buddhism, and coming from a Christian background, I found that this book has much in common with the Bible. This was an excellent read, and the words are good for all to reflect on. I recommend this book to anyone, of any religious or spiritual background.

I picked up this book interested to learn something about Buddhism. Though I feel that I have learnt many things about life, the mind and the human condition. I recommend this book to anyone who is curious about what Buddhism is, or to anyone interested in reflecting on their thoughts and inner sufferings.
