This is a superb book-extremely well documented and lavishly illustrated. It also gives highly interesting insights into certain hitherto unknown facts about Jewish life in Babylon during the Exile.

It just doesn't get any better than this. I am in a trance upon discovering this priceless volume. I immediately bought my own copy of this book upon opening it, as a loan from my Pastor. In my space, I and my friends have a keen interest in the history of the Jews and the managing of their Theophoric Names. This high-powered volume delivers on all levels of interest to students of Akkadian Language, Cuneiform, Jewish History, ancient customs and Theophoric names. Pearce and Wunsch lay out for us, in a clear and comprehensive manner, the texts, the names, the context, the linguistics, the transliterations. Literally everything. A particular collection of Cuneiform tablets, those from the David Sofer collection, are the subject of this treatise. Even photos of all the tablets are included. As I traverse effortlessly through this well-watered garden of information, I often marvel at the painstaking attention to detail at its underpinning. In the time of these ancient records, the Jewish people have a culture and a corrupted religion weaved into their souls. At this point, they are thrust out of their homeland and they are engaging the world around them. Their prophets warned them this was coming, but a national rebound was also expected. The abundance of Theophoric Names in this material, theophoric names most often pointing to the Divine Name Yahweh, create the impression that this particular feature kept the hope of national redemption alive. I have read else where that, in the late 2nd Temple Period, the name "Yehoshua/Yeshua" (i.e., Joshua's Name, meaning Yahweh Salvation), is found in a significant fraction of Hebrew Names. In this present volume, we see that name emerge for three individuals, hundreds of years prior. At this and several other points, we see satisfying synchronization with Biblical data. In the Christian scriptures, in Acts, the Apostles acknowledge that Moses was preached in "every city." These are the places, in which we find Jews, who never returned to the Holy Land. When we read Pearce and Wunch's work, we are learning about some of the ancestors of these very Jews. Muddling through their lives, deposed and silently wondering what destiny awaits them.

I urge budding authors in this same arena to employ the sterling methods of organization and integrity we find in this book. This is a template for all to follow.
