This book is full of quotations from mostly Christian and Eastern religious writings, with the former predominating. There are 3 to 4 quotes per page, giving a total of approximately 2,900. Most of the quotes have references to other entries on a similar topic. It is very helpful in getting information on a host of religious topics. However, many of the quotes are in the Via Negativa vein. This means renunciation of the personality or the ‘lower self.’ Man’s earthly nature is continually trashed. The other path, the Via Positive is ignored. There are no quotes from followers of the Via Positiva such as William Blake, Kabbalah, and works in the Western esoteric tradition. The Via Positiva is dynamic. It advocates the positive development of our human nature so that it will be a vehicle fit to receive the divine.
