Praying with Saint Patrick: Prayers and Devotions Inspired by the Irish Hero of the Faith Hardcover – February 6, 2024
Purchase options and add-ons
One of Ireland’s most beloved figures, St. Patrick was a man who lived a life soaked in prayer. A risk-taker in the service of others―particularly women, slaves, and the poor―Patrick spent years enslaved, in which he found himself praying all the time―praying for freedom, for a warm place to sleep, or to return home. He never stopped. It was something he did with great intentionality, but also in the breath between one task and the next.
Praying with Saint Patrick takes us on a journey through Patrick's life, allowing us to pray alongside him using his story and his actual prayers to deepen and enrich our own prayer lives. Each reading features a quote from Patrick, a scripture, a devotion, and a prayer such as:
- A Prayer for Times of Trouble
- A Prayer for When We Feel Helpless
- A Prayer for Hope
- A Prayer for Freedom
- A Prayer for When You Don’t Fit In
- A Prayer for the Presence of Christ
- A Prayer for God’s Salvation
- A Prayer in Times of Grief

- Reviewed in the United States on March 18, 2024I could not put this book down! I never knew the true story of Saint Patrick until reading his story and his prayers through the pages of this book. Very inspiring! Highly recommended!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 27, 2024Saint Patrick had always been just a holiday for wearing green before reading this book. He, Saint Nicholas and Johnny Appleseed were all characters in legends to me. This book enlightened me to life of the real man. A man not unlike many in the Bible who started out running from God only to be placed where they found a personal relationship with God. His story seems to parallel the story of Saul/Paul. The transformation from a young man who wanted nothing to do with religion to a man who served and loved the very people who had held him in slavery was inspiring. His prayers were deep, humbling and heartfelt, especially with the stories of what he and the Irish Christians were suffering at the time. I can’t recommend this book too highly.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 22, 2024This lovely little book is a little bit of history and a lot of prayer. Aaron Burns and Matt Mikalatos have assembled some very interesting information about St. Patrick’s life and included some of his writings and prayers from each stage of his development. St. Patrick’s rise from teenage slave to Patron Saint of Ireland is fascinating and inspiring. The book can be read as a story with prayers but they have also organized the prayers for specific situations such as a prayer for when you feel helpless or a prayer for knowledge. I thoroughly enjoyed learning more about this Saint and I will be returning to the book again and again for some of the prayers.
I received a complimentary advance reader copy of this book and I am giving my honest opinion.
