The Gothic History of Jordanes is a historical work translated and annotated by Charles Christopher Mierow in 1915. The book is a compilation of the history of the Goths, a Germanic tribe, as written by Jordanes, a 6th-century Roman historian. The original work by Jordanes, titled ""De origine actibusque Getarum"" (The Origin and Deeds of the Goths), is considered an important source of information about the Goths and their migration across Europe. The Gothic History of Jordanes is divided into two parts. The first part provides an overview of the history of the Goths, starting with their origin and early migrations and ending with their defeat by the Huns. The second part focuses on the history of the Ostrogoths, a branch of the Goths who established a powerful kingdom in Italy in the 5th and 6th centuries. Mierow's translation of Jordanes' work is accompanied by detailed annotations that provide historical context and clarify obscure references. The book also includes an introduction that discusses the life and work of Jordanes, as well as the historical significance of his writing. Overall, The Gothic History of Jordanes is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the history of the Goths, as well as for scholars of ancient history and medieval studies. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.

This book is a nice addition to my collection of sources from Late Antiquity. Yes, the translation is old as this book is a reprint but I found the translation quite readable.

Jordanes knew very well who the Getae were ....the Goth / Getae confusion may disappear if one chooses to see beyond this stumble block..... his Goths had nothing to do with the Germanic people that we have come to associate the them in early Middle Ages.
