Great book that came in excellent condition!
Reviewed in the United States on December 16, 2019
This is a mostly solid modern translation of what I think is Euripides's most important play, and one which remains relevant over two thousand years later. There are places where I miss the lyricism of earlier translations, but this one is certainly more accessible to a contemporary audience. At times it's a little two colloquial, and although I'm not a Greek scholar I understand that separate references in the original text to "anger" and "passion are both translated as "anger," which blurs an important distinction Euripides probably intended to draw. But that aside, I particularly enjoyed the three accompanying critical essays. They were thoughtful, scholarly, and addressed the most important issues the play raises.
